So my blogpost this week is about Dragonball Xenoverse because I started playing the game and haven't really had time to think about anything else. Yes, it's that good. So the story has to do with Trunks from the future, traveling through time. After that part where he went back for the Androids, he remained out of the normal flow of time and now works with the Supreme Kai of Time. They have reently noticed that the history of the DBZ world as we know it has gotten distorted, but the Supreme Kai of Time denies Trunks to interfere with his own timeline, so he uses the Dragon Balls to summon Shenron and wish for someone to fight in his place. The wish is granted and Shenron chooses...you! You can be any race, Human Saiyan, Namekian, even Majin Buu's race and Frieza's race. Apparently they are all pulled from different times where they make sense and now your character isresponsible for counter-balancing the distortions and attempting to restore the timeline. The result is that this game is both revisiting the same old story and yet making it completely new. First of all, remember that moment when Gohan attacked Raditz? Well, this time Raditz dodged and tried to kill Gohan only to be saved by you. And this time Krillin actually cuts off Vegeta's tail with his Kienzan. And Ginyu accidentally switches his body with you and Guldo hadn't died yet. Yeah, you're going to cringe at some of the changes at first and think why is the story so different? It didn't happen that way, they did this just to fit the concept. Well, yes, but it's a heck of a concept, those changes are there on purpose because the real story isn't just revisiting the story we all know and love, it's happening because somebody is actually changing the timeline, all of those supposed inaccuracies are due to the true villain who will be revealed by the end of the game and your true objective is to identify this new threat and defeat him, and along the way you get to personalize your own adventure. This game is basically playing the ultimate DBZ fanfic. Your character can be customized not only in appearance but also in abilities. You can learn just about every technique in this series, sometimes right from the source, you can actually take on the characters from the series as your mentors. And after you've done all of this you can go on the network and play with your friends. I haven't actually done that last part yet, but I have this nagging feeling that after all of the options we're given, I'm still going to find Saiyans wearing Goku's Gi spamming Super Saiyan and Kamehameha. And yet...still fun. Well if you want to find me I'll be playing as Hidariude from 7th Moon, see you in Toki Toki City!
